FUNDACIO PRIVADA CLINIC PER A LA RECERCA BIOMEDICA (FCRB)
FCRB was created to manage the research activities of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB). Since HCB allows its medical staff to carry out research for FCRB, HCB can be considered a third party of FCRB: making available its resources to a beneficiary. FCRB has a strong track record working on European projects, especially within the Framework programme (total of 20 projects in FP7 are coordinated by FCRB).
The Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is a university tertiary hospital located in Barcelona. It is a public institution with a long reputation of excellence in care provision, training and research at national and international level. Hospital Clinic employs 3971 workers (23% doctors, 55% nurses and 22% clerical and other supportive staff; figures from 2005).
The Strategic Plan in place establishes a dual model for the hospital, both as a tertiary high-tech centre at national and international levels and as a community hospital. As a tertiary high-tech hospital the goals are around consolidating an organisation that stimulates knowledge and its translation to mainstream servies, together with an adequate innovation in technology that ensures the development of the most advanced work practices. As a community hospital, the priority is set in innovation on new models of organising care provision. The objective is to improve accessibility to care through the coordination across levels of care and providers resulting in more flexible and efficient care processes.
